Entries are open to writers under age 13 in two categories: ages 9 and under, and ages 10 to 13. Stories must be fiction, and under 400 words in length, so watch those word counts!<!--more--><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-NZ\">You can find more details, writing tips and encouragement from well-known kiwis on <a title=\"The Breeze\" href=\"http:\/\/http:\/\/www.thebreeze.co.nz\/Competitions\/400WordsMainHome.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">The Breeze Website here<\/a>. Entries close on the 27th September, so now&#8217;s the time to get writing. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-NZ\">Good luck to everyone entering!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-NZ\">Writing Tip: If you\u2019re struggling to cut words to get a story down under a word limit, try reading through your story looking for words like \u201cvery\u201d, \u201creally\u201d or \u201cquite.\u201d Often you will find you can cut these without changing the meaning of the sentence too much. The same goes for things like \u201csort of\u201d or \u201ckind of.\u201d You may also like to look for sentences like \u201cHe started to run&#8230;\u201d or \u201cHe was running&#8230;\u201d Both of these could be changed to \u201cHe ran&#8230;\u201d which will save some words, and can even make your writing flow better!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-NZ\"> Happy writing!<br \/>\nHelen and Mary<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi Brain Bunnies!
