This week the Island Bay Brain Bunny class were learning about poetry \u2013 in particular list poems, metaphors and similes. They worked in two groups, and were asked to choose a topic and each write one metaphor or simile on that subject. Then we put the lines together to create two collaborative poems. The groups chose “Cats” and “Orange Soda” as their subjects, and here are their poems.<\/p>\n
The cat looks like its skin is painted.
\nCats are solid mischief,
\nwrapped in a thick coat of joy.
\nCats are a whirlwind
\nof paws, claws and whiskers.
\nCats are like a fish trap.
\nCats are walking fur bags.
\nCats are devils that feed on ratty souls.<\/p>\n
Orange soda is like a full container of bubbles,
\nlike a fresh blast in your mouth,
\nas fizzy as lemonade,
\nas tasty as sodary oranges.<\/p>\n
Orange soda goes down the tunnel like melted gold
\nrunning down your throat,
\nlava from a volcano
\nas hot as the centre of the world.<\/p>\n
Orange soda is like a volcano erupting,
\norange bubbles floating in the sky
\nand everyone wonders why oh why
\nis orange soda so… orange!<\/p>\n
