19 July 2012
Our holiday programme on the 10th July at Karori Library was a great success. We had a very talented and focused group of young writers attend, and Mary and I were really impressed by the pieces of writing created on the day. Altogether we were able to raise $360 for the Wellington SPCA. Thank you to everyone who attended!
There are several opportunities coming up in July and August for young writers and readers. This week, the third FaBo Story was launched. Each week, kids from around New Zealand can pit their writing skills against grown-up Kiwi authors in this interactive novel-writing project. For more information or to enter please visit the FaBo Story Website
Children’s-book lovers of all ages will enjoy The Wellington Storylines Family Day coming up on the 19th August. A chance for children to meet their literary heroes – authors, illustrators, storytellers or book characters. For details of writing competitions, seminars and workshops for budding young writers visit the Storylines Website
Reading Recommendation: I’ve just finished reading Fallout the fifth book in The Phoenix Files series by Chris Morphew. I’d really recommend this series to young readers aged eleven and up, especially those who like action and adventure.
Happy writing!
Mary and Helen
